Evaluating Partnerships And New Programs

  • As discussed in Beyond Stabilization: Strategies for Sustainable Communities many factors influence neighborhood quality of life and subsequent ability to attract investment.
  • Organizations engaged in revitalization work will need to ensure that these other factors are being addressed. A critical choice is when the organization should undertake new programming to do so, and when it should build partnerships with other organizations to do so.
  • One strategic option an organization could choose is to function as a sort of “neighborhood intermediary.” The roles of such a group can include:
    • Building networks of relationships among and between residents, community groups and organizations and institutions outside the neighborhood.
    • Facilitation of research, planning and advocacy processes for neighborhood improvement.
    • Assistance to help grassroots groups apply for and manage funding for neighborhood projects.
    • Encouraging organizations to try new approaches and new partnerships to address neighborhood challenges and opportunities.
