Legacy Cities: What Do They Need?

Legacy or historical cities, and their transitions over the years, is the focus of this report called: “Reinventing America’s Legacy Cities: Strategies for Cities Losing Population.”  The report highlights metro areas that are losing populations and looks at the importance of preserving these cities that have a mix of assets and challenges. The impact of a population decrease is huge for these areas.

This report examines the framework for supporting legacy cities, the changes needed and strategies for success such as developing an informed vision based on local markets. An outline of which characteristics to promote and the various strategy responses needed are included as well as how to develop civic and government support, how to define infrastructure needs and how to create sustainable development.  Read more
