Too Little, Too Late: White Paper Points Out Deficiencies in Federal Program

Design and implementation problems are among the criticisms regarding the federal policy responses to the foreclosure crisis. Even though federal responses intended to reduce foreclosures as well as mitigate the impacts on neighborhoods, this author points out how policies fell profoundly short of achieving that goal.

Written by Dan Immergluck at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the white paper -- titled Too Little, Too Late and Too Timid: The Federal Response to the Foreclosure Crisis at the 5-Year Mark -- takes a look at the policy responses since 2007 which are believed to be less than effective. The report looks closely at the federal response and some of the policy failings that could have pressed lenders and other entities to increase affordability and avoid foreclosures. Read the report
