Unwanted McMansions? Make Them Affordable Housing
There may be 30 million oversized homes on large lots in the market. Could they be repurposed as affordable housing for multigeneration or multifamily households? The idea is explored in this blog post. Arthur C. Nelson, author of a new study analyzing the supply of “McMansions,” notes, according to the post, that these home “can have more bathrooms than bedrooms, allowing for residential space that could be divided into private units, with a common kitchen and living room. Some already have or could be outfitted with second or third kitchens. Plus, there’s plenty of room for several cars and, usually, enough of a backyard for a swing set or two.” Read the blog
