What Census 2010 Reveals about Population and Housing in New Orleans and the Metro Area

Population statistics for the New Orleans area are noted in great detail in this report by the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center. The report uses 2010 Census data to demonstrate changes over the past 10 years which include a shrinking of the overall population, an increase in vacant homes and significant demographic changes. Although many of the general population and specific demographic changes are due in part to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, not all of the changes can be linked to this disaster.
