Choice Neighborhoods Grants — The Specifics

Specific details have been released about HUD’s Choice Neighborhood Implementation grants that will serve the cities of Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco and Seattle. The total amount, $122 million, will be used to redevelop homes in high-poverty, distressed neighborhoods and target blighted areas with comprehensive revitalization.

This new tool is meant to create affordable housing, safe streets and access to quality education. Its goal is to improve the lives of children and families that are living in the most distressed areas of the targeted cities. Grantees had to demonstrate their ability to revitalize severely distressed areas and show that they had partnerships and resources in place to carry out such a program. Each of these grantees has already completed a comprehensive planning process.

Grantee details:

  • The City of Boston/Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation is receiving $20.5 million to target the Woodledge/Morrant Bay Apartments and the Dorchester/Quincy Corridor community.
  • The Preservation of Affordable Housing/City of Chicago is receiving $30.5 million to target the Grove Parc Plaza/Woodlawn community.
