Detroit Hostel’s Goal: A Haven for Travelers

A new hostel in downtown Detroit is one woman’s strategy for promoting the city. Hostel Detroit was formed by Emily Doerr, who began the project with very little money — but a big idea. She assembled a board of directors for her nonprofit, raised funds and recruited volunteers to bring the project to completion. Her goal is to draw young people from other towns and cities in Michigan to experience and enjoy Detroit by providing them with a clean and affordable place to stay.
