Housing Market Rebound: What’s Working, What’s Not?
This letter to Treasury Secretary Geithner outlines the public and private supports that are helping the housing market crisis, as well as those that are not. Suggestions for spurring a market rebound are provided, which are needed before an economic recovery can occur. Ideas include taking more aggressive measures, eliminating mortgage modifications, decreasing the dependence on consumers to fix the problem, and not trying to control Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Additional suggestions are included on how to make the private market work, mostly focused on making rental housing investments more attractive and affordable.
