An Infusion of Commons Thinking Can Transform the Future of Our Communities
This story examines the process and benefits of a participatory planning process — gathering and incorporating citizens’ input into public planning projects such as comprehensive plans. The story explores what happens when residents are actively involved in public planning and are able to have influence in their communities. The article explores the idea of place and how a place can intermingle with a person’s identity, making public involvement so important. It also looks at ways to nurture this involvement in the public planning process and outlines what a “commons approach” would look like: involvement, collaborations and shared visions.
