Planning Is Everything: How Placemaking is Helping Houston
Creating lively public spaces is a goal for many cities including Houston, which has found a strategy that works. When it comes to “placemaking,” Houston does not start with designs and then turn to stakeholders for help. It uses the opposite approach. It begins by asking stakeholders to create a vision for the public space, and then follows that process with implementation by local leaders. Supporters are investing millions in placemaking projects in Houston, and the payoff is clear: increased public support and visitation to these areas.
