NCHEC Certification Renewal Policy

What are the requirements to renew my NCHEC Certification?

  • To renew your certification, you must complete 30 hours of learning prior to the certification’s expiration date
  • If you are taking a course that includes a post-course certification exam, you must pass the exam for the course to count 

Which NeighborWorks courses count towards certification renewal?

  • All NCHEC financial capability, housing education and counseling courses fulfill continuing education requirements. These are our courses that start with “HO” in the Course ID.
  • NCHEC coursework may be completed through in-person, online and group learning offerings
  • Please see the list of other courses that count towards certification renewal below

Which NeighborWorks Courses do not count towards certification renewal?

  • You may not take a course within the original certification you completed to renew it.
    • For example, you may not take a course within the Rental Eviction Intervention Certification requirements to renew the Rental Eviction Intervention Certification.
  • Any non-HO courses that are not on the list below do not count towards certification renewal
     

Can I take courses outside of NeighborWorks to fulfill my renewal requirements?

  • Yes, you may pursue up to 15 hours towards certification renewal by taking courses at an external  provider

How do I get approval for courses that I’ve taken outside of NeighborWorks?

  • To receive credit for taking a course outside of NeighborWorks, you must submit a request form to [email protected]. You’ll need to provide:
    • A certificate of completion or equivalent official proof of course completion
    • Course description that clearly demonstrates the relevance of the course to NCHEC certification and the field of financial capability, homeownership education and counseling
    • Detailed schedule of the event, including a breakdown of all sessions by time and duration
  • All external hours are approved at the discretion of NeighborWorks staff. Learners should submit their request at least 30 days before their certification expires.

How many hours will I receive for each course?

The hours you will receive depends on the duration of the course. For any online courses that are currently open for registration, you can view the hours awarded on the course product page.

What are the other NeighborWorks courses that count towards NCHEC Certification renewal?
