Flexible Risk Capital of $12.3 Million From NeighborWorks® America Serves as Magnet for Private Sector Funding of Affordable Housing Construction Nationwide
Washington, D.C. – NeighborWorks® America, a Congressionally chartered nonprofit corporation that for more than 45 years has advanced affordable mortgage financing and construction of workforce accessible homes, announced today distribution of $12.3 million in flexible risk capital to 219 members of the NeighborWorks network that build and preserve affordable housing. This investment in organizations focused on solving the housing affordability and supply crises is the latest financing round while NeighborWorks America awaits its full year funding.
“Affordable housing developers in the NeighborWorks network need the flexible, early-stage capital from these grants in order to attract and leverage private sector funding to build the affordable housing needed in our communities,” said NeighborWorks America President & CEO Marietta Rodriguez. “These grants enable mission-oriented home builders to get to work right away to alleviate today’s housing affordability and supply crises.”
NeighborWorks organizations have more than 54,735 apartment homes and single-family homes waiting in their three-year pipelines that this Congressionally approved grant capital helps move closer to being reality. For every dollar of federal appropriation in fiscal year 2024, NeighborWorks and its network attracted an additional $71 of additional public and private sector direct investment in communities.
In addition to funding, NeighborWorks supports its network's ability to develop and maintain the supply of affordable housing through virtual and in-person professional development opportunities including the NeighborWorks Training Institute and organizational assessments. These initiatives enhance and enrich network organizations and affirm NeighborWorks’ pledge to strengthen the sector's capacity to increase residential development and nurture enduring change in communities nationwide.
