NeighborWorks America Welcomes Hawai’i Community Assets to the NeighborWorks Network
Washington, D.C. – NeighborWorks® America announced that Hawai’i Community Assets (HCA) has become the newest member of the national NeighborWorks network. The NeighborWorks network is a group of high-performing community and housing development nonprofit organizations committed to increasing homeownership and financial capability, and empowering residents to work together to advance economic opportunity. Membership in the NeighborWorks network gives HCA access to new sources of flexible funds for local housing investment and job creation. In addition to new capital for homeownership programs, network membership increases proximity to housing industry leadership and to a laboratory of proven strategies that successfully bring private and government investment together to increase the supply of affordable homes.
HCA received its official NeighborWorks charter during a special ceremony themed He Ho‘oilina (“the legacy”) attended by members of HCA’s Board of Directors, local elected officials, community leaders and clients.
A written statement from Senator Mazie Hirono shared at the ceremony said, “Since its creation in 2000, HCA has helped Hawai‘i families build sustainable wealth through financial education, grants, and loans. To the leadership and staff — mahalo for 25 years of dedicated service. Congratulations on your chartering into NeighborWorks America.”
“I’m excited to welcome Hawai’i Community Assets into the NeighborWorks network,” said NeighborWorks America President & CEO Marietta Rodriguez. “HCA’s state-wide operations add to the amazing work being done by our two other organizations, Hawai’i Homeownership Center and Mutual Housing Association of Hawai’i. In fiscal year 2024 alone, NeighborWorks’ investment footprint in Hawai’i reached nearly $100 million — a testament to what’s possible when national and local partnerships align. With HCA’s entry into the network, this impact will continue to grow.”
“Becoming a member of the NeighborWorks network will energize and significantly expand our ability to accomplish our work to lift up, sustain and build stronger communities,” said Chelsie Evans, executive director of HCA. “Now more than ever, we must defend the tools that work. NeighborWorks and local partners like HCA are proving that community-led models can unlock real, lasting change. In a time of political uncertainty, our communities must be the constant”
