NeighborWorks® America Awards $1.3 Million for Disaster Response Grants Bringing the Total Fiscal Year 2025 Relief Investment To $2.2 Million
Washington, D.C., September 25, 2025 – NeighborWorks® America announced its final round of fiscal year 2025 grants, awarding millions to strengthen communities through affordable housing, financial stability, and disaster recovery. This round includes $1.3 million in disaster recovery funding, supporting communities in states recently impacted by wildfires, flooding, hurricanes and other natural disasters and bringing the total recovery investment to $2.2 million dollars for the 2025 fiscal year. Over the course of the year, grants were awarded to 28 organizations across 15 states.
“Disasters do more than damage homes; they disrupt lives and weaken communities,” said Marietta Rodriguez, President & CEO of NeighborWorks America. “By putting resources directly in the hands of trusted local organizations quickly and efficiently, we ensure recovery efforts are both immediate and lasting. These investments not only rebuild homes but also restore hope.”
Mountain Housing Opportunities, a NeighborWorks network organization in Asheville, North Carolina, received funding immediately after the storm and again in this latest round of grants.
"MHO is an incredibly special community-based organization. We’ve grown out of western North Carolina, Asheville is our home, and we’re very pleased to have robust support in the community and among national peers in the NeighborWorks network,” said Geoffrey Barton, President & CEO of the nonprofit. “The unrestricted funding from NeighborWorks America that MHO received in those first hours and days of Hurricane Helene were some of the first federal dollars that western North Carolina received in the aftermath of the hurricane. The funding awarded this week will have a significant impact on our ability to continue our robust housing recovery efforts in western North Carolina."
The grants reflect NeighborWorks America’s unique role as a Congressionally chartered nonprofit that partners with nearly 250 local organizations in every state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. In fiscal year 2024 alone, the NeighborWorks network:
- Preserved 12,800 affordable homes and preserved, developed or acquired 13,500 rental homes
- Repaired more than 84,000 homes
- Helped 16,300 individuals and families become homeowners
- Issued 16,300 professional training certificates to affordable housing and community development practitioners
- Supported and created more than 48,900 jobs across communities nationwide
These outcomes underscore the value of NeighborWorks America’s federal investment, which last year generated $71 in direct community investment for every $1 appropriated.
With this final round of funding, NeighborWorks America reaffirms its commitment to ensuring every community is a place of opportunity by creating affordable homes, improving lives, and strengthening neighborhoods across the country.
