From a young age, Monica Arceo Mendoza was aware of a lack of decent, affordable housing. "My family still struggles with housing insecurity today and it is an issue that is not unique to our family," she says. Her experience led her to California Coalition of Rural Housing’s (CCRH) Internship Program for Diversity in Nonprofit Housing and Community Development.

Indiana's Lacasa Inc. is holding its traditional "Master Your Money” class in a new location: The Elkhart County Jail. Previously, local bankers led the classes for inmates. But as banks became short-staffed during the pandemic, opportunities dwindled. Lacasa, a NeighborWorks network organization working to create opportunities for personal empowerment,  jumped to fill in the gap.

The Housing Stability Counseling Program (HSCP) was designed to support families and individuals who are facing foreclosure, eviction or homelessness as a result of pandemic-related economic fallout. NeighborWorks America was charged with implementing the $100 million program as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

As REACH CDC celebrated its 40th anniversary, the Portland, Oregon, NeighborWorks network organization brought back its greatest hits. One of those hits was the annual repair-a-thon, a chance for neighbors to help neighbors. The organization held the event during NeighborWorks Week. Volunteers repaired six homes.
